Buying or renting a Stairlift

Stairlifts can be rented as well as purchased.
We regularly get people asking about stair lift rental and whilst it is a good solution for many it is not always right for the customer.
We often get enquiries at Christmas, for example, when family members are coming to stay for just a few days, generally the rental solution does not fit the bill for this situation.

If you are thinking of renting let me outline the process.
Firstly a surveyor needs to come and measure up and price the installation.
Now the lift has to be manufactured, delivered and installed.
These first two items (together with removal at end of hire period) represent the bulk of the cost for the supplier. So in almost every case I have come across this will be paid for by an initial payment, then followed by monthly rental payments.
This is quite quick for a basic straight run stairlift. However a curved stair lift will take a couple of weeks or so to get made and installed.

Remember too that when the lift is removed there will be holes through the stair carpet where the rail is fixed and these may show after removal.
My opinion is that rental is generally an economic proposition for a period of up to two years, beyond that purchasing is probably a cheaper alternative.

As a rough guide expect an initial payment of around £600 to £700 for a straight stair lift & £1000 to £1400 for a curved stairlift.
Monthly rental figures are around £60 to £80 for straight and £150 to £180 for curved.
Remember this rental should also includes servicing and emergency call outs.
Be sure you use a reliable Company with a proper 24 hour call out service.
We have found Stannah offer an excellent all round service and highly recommend them.
There are of course other good Companies around but we have found generally the smaller local Companies do not have the resources to provide adequate cover in this respect. So we would always suggest a larger national Company.

Hi. I wanted to drop you a quick note to express my thanks. I have been following your blog for a month or so and have picked up a heap of good information as well as enjoyed the way you’ve structured your site. I am making an attempt to run my own blog however I think its too general and I need to focus more on smaller topics. Being all things to all people is not all that its cracked up to be

Interesting. Thanks for that, however that is not the limit of my appreciation. I am afflicted with color blindness (deuteranopia in my case). I mostly use Safari browser (unsure if that changes anything), and far too many websites are hard to comprehend on account of a poor range of colors used. In your case, as the selection of colors is fine, the site is amazingly tidy and easy to read.
